Barkerville Historic Town

Barkerville, Western North America's premiere heritage attraction, continues to prove itself as a favourite of the visiting public.

The famous heritage landmark is free from the restraints associated with being a provincial entity, and with a new board running the park, Barkerville continues to receive high visitation numbers. Barkerville continues to expand its wide array of services.

The past decade has seen Barkerville undertake numerous renovation and expansion projects. Some of the main upgrades include an expansion of its Chinatown and visitor services, the inclusion of numerous new displays and refurbished buildings, and the opening of three Bed & Breakfasts within the town site itself.

Projects that have taken place within the last year include the refubishing of the Barkerville Hotel, the restoration of the Mme Bendixon building, the renovation and expansion of the Blacksmith shop, and the restoration of the "Sporting House".

With more improvements taking place on an ongoing basis Barkerville will continue to be one of the largest drawing historic sites in the world.

Bowron Lakes

The Bowron Lakes area is known worldwide for its unsurpassed natural beauty.

Located 32 km east of Wells, this beautiful Provincial Park, provides one of the world’s best canoeing opportunities. 116 kilometers of lakes, rivers and short portages form a rectangular chain through superb mountain scenery, allowing you to canoe right back to your starting point.

Lakeside lodges and campgrounds provide a home base for exploring Bowron Lakes. The Park’s spectacular scenery and wildlife viewing are accessible through shorter excursions.

Rent a canoe or kayak for an hour or a week. Or just relax by the lake. BBQ over an open fire or eat in one of the fine local restaurants. Visitors can bring their own gear when they visit Bowron Lakes, or they can stop at their choice of two stores that provide groceries, camping supplies, fishing tackle and souvenirs.

Wells

As the main staging area for trips to Barkerville and Bowron Lakes, Wells is the centre of economic, artistic and social activity in the area.

Wells recently experienced a huge increase of capital investment thanks to an increase in mining operations by International Wayside Goldmines, and recent developments point to an additional investment of $3 million dollars.

The historic Sunset Theatre was renovated and will be an operational performance space in the near future, and vital restoration work continued on the Wells Community Hall.

These new entrepreneurs join an already impressive list of existing businesses that are helping to position Wells as a major force in the always growing tourism industry.
